🌍 Using Machine Learning to Aid Survivors and Race through Time
On February 6, 2023, earthquakes measuring 7.7 and 7.6 hit South Eastern Turkey, affecting 10 cities and resulting in more than 42,000 deaths and 120,000 injured as of February 21.
A few hours after the earthquake, a group of programmers started a Discord server to roll out an application called afetharita, literally meaning, disaster map. This application would serve search & rescue teams and volunteers to find survivors and bring them help.
🐈⬛ Snapchat unveils AI chatbot powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT
Snap Inc. revealed that the company plans to jump on the artificial intelligence bandwagon by adding a chatbot powered by OpenAI LLC’s ChatGPT named “My AI” to its multimedia instant messaging app Snapchat.
The company unveiled details about the new service in an announcement stating that users will be able to talk to the AI for recommendations about birthday gift ideas, event plans, dinner recipes and more.
🌦️ Researchers Drive Hyper-Local Climate Modeling Movement
Researchers from Northwestern University and Argonne National Laboratory have been launching NVIDIA Jetson-driven edge computing Waggle devices across the globe to collect hyper-local climate information. Waggle is an open source sensor platform for edge computing developed.
🎶 Spotify Debuts a New AI DJ
Spotify has launched a new feature called "DJ" that uses AI to create personalized playlists for users based on their listening preferences and habits. This new feature utilizes Spotify's personalization technology, generative AI, and a dynamic AI voice platform from Sonantic to create a stunningly realistic voice that accompanies users' music selection.

O'Reilly releases its annual study on technological trends. The 2023 edition highlights a growing interest in AI, deep learning, and programming languages such as Go, Rust, and C++.
Over the past two years, natural language processing (NLP) has been at the forefront of AI research, with popular tools such as Open AI GPT-3 and ChatGPT. NLP has many industrial applications, ranging from automated chat servers to code generation (such as GitHub Copilot) and writing tools. NLP content was the most viewed, with a significant year-over-year growth of 42%. All these advances are based on deep learning, which was the second most used subject, with a growth of 23%.
