👁 Now in 3D: Deep learning techniques help visualize X-ray data in three dimensions
A team of Argonne scientists has leveraged artificial intelligence to train computers to keep up with the massive amounts of X-ray data taken at the Advanced Photon Source.
🧠 New AI Approach Predicts Schizophrenia
A computational strategy analyzes specific regions of the human genome using a machine learning algorithm called SPLS-DA. The authors developed a model that can assess an individual’s chances of having schizophrenia. Using the first two SPLS dimensions the authors calculated a vector they call “risk distance” that identifies individuals with the highest probability of schizophrenia.
🧏♀️ Fingerspelling Uses Machine Learning to Teach You the ABCs of Sign Language
An interactive tool developed by the American Society that uses hand and finger tracking from MediaPipe Hands to teach the ASL alphabet.
💣 Measuring destruction: Tracking war damage with AI
Combining machine learning with satellite imagery can help generate objective data on war damage in urban areas. The team used a convolutional neural network (CNN) to automate the photo analysis. The model successfully traced the progression of war damage over the course of the civil war with a level of precision closely rivalling that of manual approaches.
