🎛 AI chip startups Axelera AI and Deep Vision raise new funding
The startup is designing its silicon for use in edge computing systems that require the ability to run AI algorithms with a high degree of power efficiency. Edge computing systems, such as the computers powering self-driving cars, only have as much electricity at their disposal as the attached battery can accommodate, which makes power efficiency a major design priority.
🖥📣 Zoom plans to add real-time translation for 12 languages next year
The demo showed an English speaker having his speech translated in real-time in the form of Japanese and Chinese subtitles, with a German speaker translated into English in the same fashion coming right after.
The real time transformation speech works thanks to AI-powered algorithms working in conjunction with machine translation.
The hub seeks to attract talent from all European countries and is part of the Search & AI team led by vice president of Microsoft Corporation in USA. This team that specializes in AI applications is the largest group and contributes to the development of multiple Microsoft products, including Windows, Azure and, of course, Bing.
🎙️ Textless NLP: Generating speech from raw audio
Facebook has figured out how to train a language model from pure audio data, no labeled text required. This is a potentially big deal - only a minority of the world's spoken languages are instantiated in large text datasets, and some languages (e.g, many African dialects) have a tiny text footprint relative to how much they're spoken.
👴 Deep learning is keeping to protect elderly people on their feet.
More than 2,000 senior living facilities across the U.S. use a diagnostic system called VirtuSense Balance to keep residents on their feet. The system helps a specialist spot postures and motions that could contribute to a fall. It scans patients with infrared light as they perform a series of motions.
