🧪 Isomorphic Labs is Alphabet’s play in AI drug discovery
The field of drug discovery has been supercharged by the capabilities of AI, which several companies have applied in various ways to turn an enormous practical problem into a tractable information problem. The latest to do so is Google parent company Alphabet, which has established Isomorphic Labs, under DeepMind head Demis Hassabis, to take its shot at the promising new field.

💸 H2O.ai closes $100 million in funding
H2O.ai, the AI Cloud leader, announced it has closed $100 million in Series E funding led by Australia’s largest bank, customer Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA). H2O.ai has now raised over $250 million and is valued at $1.7 billion. 20,000 organizations, millions of data scientists, and half of the Fortune 500 trust H2O.ai as their AI provider. The company has a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 78— the highest in the industry. The capital will be used to scale partnerships, sales, marketing, and customer success globally.
💰 Landing AI closes $57 million in funding
Landing AI, which provides tools that make building and deploying AI systems in manufacturing faster and easier than ever, announced Series A funding of $57 million led by McRock Capital, the first investment firm focused exclusively on the Industrial IoT.
🪶 Baidu made PP-PicoDet for object detection on mobile devices
Baidu researchers have built PicoDet, software for doing object detection on lightweight mobile devices, like phones. PicoDet tries to satisfy the tradeoff between performance and efficiency, with an emphasis on miniaturizing the model so you can run object detection at the greatest number of frames per second on your device.

🥸 Facebook Doesn´t See Your Face
Facebook, beset by reports that it ignored evidence that it causes harm in its drive to spur user engagement, pulled the plug on its face recognition features. Facebook disabled face recognition for uploaded photos and videos as well as its retrospective Memories service and promised to delete over 1 billion individual face recognition templates. The company cited “societal concerns” and uncertainty about future government regulation.
