👚👗 Walmart launches AI-powered virtual clothing try-on technology for online shoppers
Walmart is introducing the computer vision neural network-powered “Choose My Model”, which will now allow Walmart customers to select a model that better matches their own appearance and body type. The new feature is powered by Walmart Global Tech’s neural networks, which analyze catalog images of garments to create a dressed image using computer vision algorithms across a diverse set of Walmart model images.
🧑⚕️ Artificial Intelligence Tutoring Outperforms Expert Instructors in Brain Surgery Training
The Neurosurgical Simulation and Artificial Intelligence Learning Centre at The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital) recruited seventy medical students to perform virtual brain tumor removals on a neurosurgical simulator
An AI-powered tutor called the Virtual Operative Assistant (VOA) used a machine learning algorithm to teach safe and efficient surgical technique and provided personalized feedback, while a deep learning Intelligent Continuous Expertise Monitoring System (ICEMS) and a panel of experts assessed student performance.
🧠 Where Did That Sound Come From? MIT Neuroscientists Can Answer That Question
The model, which consists of several convolutional neural networks, not only performs the task as well as humans do, it also struggles in the same ways that humans do.
To train the models, the researchers created a virtual world in which they can control the size of the room and the reflection properties of the walls of the room. All of the sounds fed to the models originated from somewhere in one of these virtual rooms.
🖖 20-year old creates AI model that can understand sign language
Priyanjali Gupta has created an AI model that can understand gestures. She made the model using Tensorflow object detection api and it can translates a few ASL signs to English using transfer learning from pretrained ssd_mobilenet model. At present, the model can understand six signs - Hello, I Love You, Thank You, Please, Yes, and No.
☢️ First AI controls plasma inside fusion reactor
DeepMind used computer simulations to train an AI to control plasma, showing it how plasma reacts when each of the magnetic coils around a tokamak are adjusted. They tested the AI on the actual plasma inside the variable configuration tokamak. The AI was able to force the plasma into many different shapes being studied by plasma physicists, including a “droplet” shape that had never been produced in the TCV before.
🪐New artificial intelligence model shows hidden turbulence in Sun's atmosphere
The researchers developed a novel convolutional neural network to estimate the spatial distribution of horizontal velocity by using the spatial distributions of temperature and vertical velocity. The researchers compared data on similar stars to historical records of the sun’s activity. These records included about 400 years of observational data.
